A Quick Summary of ACE:
ACE (Association for Community Employment) is an organization that trains the homeless to enter or re-enter the workforce. They typically partner with half-way houses to bring in people who have suffered from some sort of addiction, and who usually have a criminal record, who are looking to get back on their feet. ACE puts them to work by cleaning the streets in SoHo (you may have seen them in their red jumpsuits), so they learn the value of a hard day's work and get paid for doing it. They also take remedial classes, receive GED tutoring, etc. They are usually with ACE for 6-12 months until they can find a full-time job, at which point ACE holds a graduation ceremony. Even once they graduate, ACE sticks with these people for life and helps them remain self-sufficient. It's a relatively small organization that makes a huge impact in our neighborhood.
