Major work needs to be done in a structure that is now over 200 years old. Renovations are scheduled to begin early in 2014 and continue in stages until the entire project is completed in time for the Basilica’s 206th Anniversary Celebration in 2015. Here are some of the features of the Restoration:


· Repair of the exterior walls and roof;

· Stabilization of the plaster ceiling and walls;

· Replacement of the original electrical systems;

· Replacement of lighting fixtures;

· Installation air conditioning and replacement of  the heating system;

· Reframing and re-leading of the stain glass windows;

· Installation of an elevator with three stops: catacombs, nave and sanctuary;

· New restrooms at “lower church” level;

· Restoration of the classic Erben Organ;

· Creation of a new chapel for daily Mass;

· Return of the Tabernacle to its position at the center of the sanctuary

· Installation of new pews;

· Enlargement of the foyer (gathering space);

· Restoration of the Stations of the Cross;

· Refurbishment of the Confessionals;

· Restoration of the sacred images

· Restoration of the bell tower and bell;

· Restoration of the restoration of the Catacombs;

· Landscaping of cemetery grounds.
